La nuova puntata si intitola “kefa”.

Il caffè, bevanda amata in tutto il mondo, ha una storia profondamente intrecciata con la colonizzazione e la schiavitù. Nato nelle regioni dell’Africa orientale, il suo commercio globale si è sviluppato per mezzo di un sistema di piantagioni basato sul lavoro forzato di milioni di schiavi africani. Dietro l’aroma e il gusto raffinato si cela una realtà di sofferenza, violenza e sfruttamento umano, che ha plasmato non solo economie e culture, ma anche le ingiustizie sociali ancora oggi legate alla produzione di questa preziosa commodity.

This new episode is entitled “kefa”.

Coffee, a drink loved all over the world, has a history deeply intertwined with colonisation and slavery. Originating in East Africa, its global trade developed thanks to a plantation system based on the forced labour of millions of African slaves. Behind its aroma and refined taste lies a reality of suffering, violence and human exploitation, which has shaped not only economies and cultures, but also the social injustices still linked today to the production of this precious commodity.

Questa nuova puntata è intitolata “BlackFem”.

Esploriamo il significato profondo del femminismo e il ruolo fondamentale del Black Feminism nella lotta contro le discriminazioni multiple. Da sempre in prima linea nelle campagne per la giustizia sociale, il femminismo nero ha contribuito a influenzare movimenti globali come il Black lives Matter e Me Too. Questo movimento mira a diventare una forza globale, affrontando le discriminazioni di lunga data specifiche della diaspora africana e le lotte contro il colonialismo. 

Attraverso storie, riflessioni e voci di attiviste storiche e contemporanee, approfondiamo come cultura, arte e impegno collettivo possano contrastare il razzismo e promuovere una società più giusta e inclusiva in onore della settimana antirazzista.

This new episode is entitled “BlackFem

In this episode, we explore the deeper meaning of feminism and the fundamental role of Black Feminism in the fight against multiple forms of discrimination. Having always been at the front line of campaigns for social justice, Black Feminism has helped to shape global movements such as Black Lives Matter and #MeToo. This movement aims to become a global force, addressing long-standing forms of discrimination specific to the African diaspora and the struggles against colonialism. 

Through stories, reflections and the voices of historical and contemporary activists, we explore how culture, art and collective action can combat racism and promote a fairer, more inclusive society in honour of Anti-Racism Week.

Oggi parliamo di un continente che ha una storia antica e straordinaria: l’Africa. Per troppo tempo, però, questa storia è stata poco conosciuta o raccontata in modo distorto, alimentando pregiudizi di miseria, caos e arretratezza. Ma è arrivato il momento di cambiare prospettiva.

L’Africa non è solo un territorio difficile da attraversare, con deserti, montagne e foreste che hanno frammentato il continente, ma è anche una terra con un passato ricco di culture, regni e tradizioni. Le fonti per conoscere questa storia sono tante, anche se spesso nascoste o difficili da interpretare: dai manoscritti antichi conservati in biblioteche lontane, ai reperti archeologici che parlano attraverso gli oggetti, fino alla tradizione orale, fatta di racconti, proverbi e poesie che custodiscono la memoria di interi popoli.

Riscoprire queste tracce è fondamentale per capire chi siamo oggi e per liberarci da stereotipi sbagliati. Solo così potremo costruire un futuro più giusto, dove l’Africa venga finalmente riconosciuta per la sua vera grandezza e ricchezza culturale.

Today we talk about a continent with an ancient and extraordinary history: Africa. For too long, however, this history has been little known or distorted, fueling prejudices of poverty, chaos, and backwardness. But now it is time to change perspective.

Africa is not just a difficult land to cross, with deserts, mountains, and forests that have fragmented the continent; it is also a land with a rich past of cultures, kingdoms, and traditions. The sources to learn about this history are many, even if often hidden or hard to interpret: from ancient manuscripts kept in distant libraries, to archaeological finds that speak through objects, to the oral tradition made up of stories, proverbs, and poems that preserve the memory of entire peoples.

Rediscovering these traces is essential to understand who we are today and to free ourselves from false stereotypes. Only in this way can we build a fairer future, where Africa is finally recognized for its true greatness and cultural richness.

“Materia e Memoria”.
In questa puntata parliammo di arte come linguaggio capace di dare forma alla memoria attraverso la materia, esplorando il rapporto tra corpo, spazio ed espressione artistica. Un viaggio che ci porterà a scoprire come materiali semplici, spesso di recupero, possano trasformarsi in potenti veicoli di storie, identità e tradizioni. 

Ci soffermandoci in particolare sul lavoro dell’artista ghanese El Anatsui e sulla sua capacità di tramandare credenze e tradizioni attraverso il Kente. Inoltre, vi racconterò la storia del festival Black History Month, ha luogo ogni anno nel mese di febbraio presso la nostra sede, in molte altre città italiane e in diversi Paesi del mondo. 

“Matter and Memory.”

In this episode, we will explore art as a language capable of giving shape to memory through matter, examining the relationship between body, space, and artistic expression. This journey will lead us to discover how simple materials often reclaimed can be transformed into powerful vehicles of stories, identities, and traditions.

We will focus in particular on the work of Ghanaian artist El Anatsui and on his ability to pass down beliefs and traditions through kente. In addition, I will share the history of the Black History Month festival, which will take place in February at our venue, as well as in many other Italian cities and in countries around the world.

La puntata di Afrodipendenza esplora il tema dell’identità come processo dinamico e relazionale, con particolare attenzione all’identità sociale, culturale e afro-diasporica delle persone afrodiscendenti in Italia. L’identità emerge come costruzione complessa, influenzata dalla storia, dal contesto e dallo sguardo dell’altro, come evidenziato da autori quali William Edward Burghardt Du Bois e Franz Fanon. Allo stesso tempo, voci contemporanee come Djamila Ribeiro e Grace Fainelli offrono una prospettiva femminista e inclusiva, capace di interrogare il presente. L’identità viene infine intesa come appartenenza, libertà e riconoscimento di sé, un percorso in continua evoluzione che si realizza attraverso la memoria, la comunità e la possibilità di immaginare e costruire spazi che accolgano e riflettano chi siamo.

This episode of Afrodipendenza explores the theme of identity as a dynamic and relational process, with particular attention to the social, cultural, and Afro-diasporic identity of Afro-descendant people in Italy. Identity emerges as a complex construction, influenced by history, context, and the perspective of others, as highlighted by authors such as William Edward Burghardt Du Bois and Franz Fanon. At the same time, contemporary voices such as Djamila Ribeiro and Grace Fainelli offer a feminist and inclusive perspective capable of interrogating the present. Identity is ultimately understood as belonging, freedom, and self-recognition, a constantly evolving journey realized through memory, community, and the ability to imagine and build spaces that welcome and reflect who we are.

Questa puntata è intitolata ”CURA”. 

Oggi questa parola è ovunque, un po' come lo è stata “resilienza” durante la pandemia. E proprio per questo rischiamo di svuotarla del suo significato, di denaturarla e renderla quasi banale. 

Vorremmo che ognuno desse una propria interpretazione rispondendo alla domanda: Che cos’è la cura per me? 

Per noi, la cura è quell’insieme di attenzioni e piccole gestualità, di dedizione esercitato con diligenza e accuratezza, che ci permette di protenderci verso qualcosa che impegna il nostro animo e la nostra intera esistenza. Può essere rivolto a noi stessi, al benessere di una persona o di un animale, all’ambiente o a un oggetto, con l’intento di preservarne la qualità, l’armonia o il corretto funzionamento.

This episode is titled "CARE."

This word is everywhere today, much like "resilience" was during the pandemic. And precisely for this reason, we risk emptying it of its meaning, distorting it, and rendering it almost banal. We'd like everyone to offer their own interpretation by answering the question: What is care for me?

Care is that combination of attentions and small gestures, of dedication exercised with diligence and care, that allows us to reach out toward something that engages our soul and our entire existence. It can be directed at ourselves, at the well-being of a person or an animal, at the environment or an object, with the intent of preserving its quality, harmony, or proper functioning.

Questa puntata si intitola“Memoria in fiore, ascolto della terra, parlando con cuore, facendo sorridere l’anima”, ampliando il senso di radicamento, apertura all’ascolto, e una dolce forza interiore. 

Lasciamo che la parola diventi radice, che il suono si apra come un fiore,
che l’ascolto ci riporti alla terra e al respiro condiviso delle storie.
Il nostro cammino è ispirato ad Aimé Césaire, poeta della negritudine e della dignità, che ha trasformato la memoria in canto e la lingua in libertà.
La sua poesia ci insegna che parlare è un atto d’amore, e che ogni voce – anche la più piccola – può risuonare nel mondo come un seme di rinascita.

In questa puntata intrecceremo conversazioni, suoni e visioni:
dialoghi sulla performatività e la diaspora, riflessioni sullo spazio pubblico e le storie contestate, e una performance sonora che scorre come acqua, portando con sé le nostre presenze e le nostre memorie. Vedremo anche come quelle parole abbiano influenzato grandi artisti come Sarah Maldoror, regista cinematografica, attivista e regista teatrale franco-guadalupense. E infine, concluderemo invitandovi a partecipare ai nostri prossimi eventi. 

Un invito, dunque, ad ascoltare. 

A parlare con il cuore. 

A lasciar fiorire la memoria e, insieme, a far sorridere l’anima.

“Memoria in fiore, ascolto della terra, parlando con il cuore, facendo sorridere l’anima” è un viaggio sonoro e poetico ispirato all’opera di Aimé Césaire, dove la memoria si fa radice e la parola diventa strumento di rinascita. In questa puntata, coltiviamo l’ascolto profondo della terra e delle emozioni, lasciando che sia il cuore a parlare e l’anima a sorridere. Un invito a ritrovare l’armonia tra voce identità e natura, là dove la poesia diventa respiro collettivo.

We'll also explore how those words have influenced great artists like Sarah Maldoror, a French-Guadeloupean filmmaker, activist, and theater director. "Memoria in fiore, ascolto della terra, parlando con cuore, facendo sorridere l’anima" is a sonic and poetic journey inspired by the work of Aimé Césaire, where memory becomes rooted and words become an instrument of rebirth. In this episode, we cultivate a deep listening to the earth and emotions, letting the heart speak and the soul smile. An invitation to rediscover the harmony between voice, identity, and nature, where poetry becomes collective breathing.

Questa puntata di Afrodipendenza è incorniciata da una riflessione sui sogni: sogni come aspirazioni, ma anche come meditazioni poetiche sulle realtà distopiche che ci plasmano senza definire la nostra capacità di immaginare.

Dedichiamo questa puntata ad Assata Shakur, scomparsa la scorsa settimana. Nata JoAnne Deborah Byron nel 1947, divenne una rivoluzionaria, prima con il Black Panther Party e poi con il Black Liberation Army. Assata dedicò la sua vita alla lotta contro il razzismo, la violenza coloniale e il sistema carcerario-industriale. Nel 1977, fu condannata in un processo molto contestato per l'omicidio di un agente della polizia di stato del New Jersey – accuse che lei stessa sostenne sempre essere il risultato di persecuzioni politiche. Due anni dopo, si liberò dal carcere e trovò rifugio a Cuba, dove visse come esule politica fino alla sua scomparsa.

Shakur era, e rimane, un'ispirazione per i combattenti per la libertà di tutto il mondo. Noi portiamo avanti il ​​suo spirito.

In questo episodio sentirete le voci della nostra comunità leggere frammenti di testi che si collegano al suo lavoro e alla nostra visione del sogno. This episode of Afrodipendenza is framed by a reflection on dreams—dreams as aspirations, but also as poetic meditations on the dystopian realities that shape us without defining our capacity to imagine.

We dedicate this episode to Assata Shakur, who passed last week. Born JoAnne Deborah Byron in 1947, she became a revolutionary, first with the Black Panther Party and later with the Black Liberation Army. Assata dedicated her life to the struggle against racism, colonial violence, and the prison-industrial system. In 1977, she was convicted in a highly contested trial for the killing of a New Jersey state trooper—charges she always maintained were the result of political persecution. Two years later, she liberated herself from prison and found refuge in Cuba, where she lived as a political exile until her passing.

Shakur was, and remains, an inspiration to freedom fighters worldwide. We carry her spirit forward.

In this episode you’ll hear voices from our community reading fragments of texts that connect to her work and to our own visions of dreaming. We’ll also share excerpts from two talks hosted at The Recovery Plan, a couple of songs in her honor, and archival recordings of Shakur in her own words.

Duke Ellington once said that all he ever did was dream—that music itself was a dream. Assata Shakur too was sustained by dreams. While in prison, her grandmother appeared in a dream, joyful, seeing her free at home. Not long after, Assata escaped captivity and found freedom in Cuba, where she remained until her passing.

This episode is dedicated to the pluri-talented artist Andre Thomas Halyard AKA Dre Love, co-founder of Black History Month Florence who passed away May 19th, 2025. His impact on the Florentine cultural landscape cannot be understated. He was a dear friend to many and we would like to make a fist attempt at sharing his voice and energy with you. Afrodipendenza would not exist without his spark.

Questa puntata è dedicata a Koyo Kouoh, curatrice e leader culturale scomparsa il 10 maggio. The Recovery Plan, come molti spazi culturali con una visione panafricana, ha tratto grande ispirazione dal suo lavoro presso Raw Material a Dakar e al suo approccio curatoriale innovativo, contribuendo a far emergere nuove riflessioni sul potenziale delle organizzazioni artistiche nel trasformare il proprio contesto.

Koyo Kouoh è stata Direttrice Esecutiva e Curatrice Capo dello Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) di Città del Capo (Sudafrica). Prima di questa nomina nel 2019, è stata la Direttrice Artistica fondatrice di RAW Material Company, un centro per l'arte, la conoscenza e la società a Dakar, in Senegal.

Allo Zeitz MOCAA, la visione curatoriale promossa da lei e dalla sua squadra si è concentrata su mostre personali approfondite di artisti africani e della diaspora, tra cui Otobong Nkanga, Johannes Phokela, Senzeni Marasela, Abdoulaye Konaté, Tracey Rose, Mame-Diarra Niang and Mary Evans. This episode is dedicated to Koyo Kouoh, the curator and cultural leader who passed away May 10th. The Recovery Plan, like many cultural spaces with a Pan-African vision, has drawn great inspiration from her work in giving form to Raw Material in Dakar and from her innovative curatorial approach, facilitating the emergence of new reflections on the potential of artistic organizations to transform their cultural and social contexts.

Koyo Kouoh was the Executive Director and Chief Curator of Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) in Cape Town (South Africa). Prior to this appointment in 2019, she was the founding Artistic Director of RAW Material Company, a center for art, knowledge and society in Dakar, Senegal.

At Zeitz MOCAA, the curatorial vision advanced by Kouoh and her team has focused on in-depth solo exhibitions by African and African-descent artists, including Otobong Nkanga, Johannes Phokela, Senzeni Marasela, Abdoulaye Konaté, Tracey Rose, Mame-Diarra Niang and Mary Evans. She has organized groundbreaking exhibitions such as Tracey Rose: Shooting Down Babylon and When We See Us: A Century of Black Figuration in Painting at Zeitz MOCAA, currently on its third iteration at Bozar in Brussels, as well as Body Talk: Feminism, Sexuality and the Body in the Works of Six African Women Artists at Wiels in Brussels, Belgium in 2015. She curated Still (the) Barbarians, the 37th EVA International, Ireland's Biennal in Limerick in 2016. She participated in the 57th Carnegie International in Pittsburgh, PA, in 2018, with the research and exhibition project Dig Where You Stand, a show within a show, drawn from the collections of the Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History. She served as head of the Educational and Artistic Programme of 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London and New York from 2013 to 2017, as well as on the curatorial teams for documenta 12 (2007) and documenta 13 (2012).

Kouoh is the recipient of the Grand Prix Meret Oppenheim 2020, the Swiss Grand Award for Art that honours achievements in the fields of art, architecture, critique, and exhibition and was nominated curator of the next Venice Biennial in 2026. She was to present the show’s title and theme in Venice May 20th.

She lived and worked in Cape Town, South Africa; Dakar, Senegal; Basel, Switzerland and Douala, Cameroon, where she was born.

Episodio 5  La Narrazione
dedicato a Martin Luther King Jr.

Afrodipendenza è un programma radiofonico dedicato a una prospettiva posizionata sulla storia
culturale degli afrodiscendenti in Italia. Concentrandosi sulla cultura contemporanea e sulla
narrazione storica come forma di proiezione verso il futuro, il programma nasce dalla collaborazione
tra The Recovery Plan e Igiaba Scego come media outlet che emerge da un silenzio assordante.
The Recovery Plan è un centro dedicato alle culture afro-discendenti ideato da Black History Month
Florence nella città di Firenze nato nel 2019.

Nel mese di febbraio dal 1 al 28 avrà luogo la 10 edizione di Black History Month Florence intitolata “TEMPO RUBATO”, che è una meditazione
sulla cancellazione della storia come furto del tempo, ma attinge anche alla notazione musicale, rubata, che dà al musicista la libertà di interpretare il tempo, accelerandolo e rallentandolo come mezzo di espressione.

Come nasce questo movimento? E perché a febbraio?
Nel febbraio del 1926 Carter G Woodson, noto come padre della storia dei neri, decide di lanciare
l'iniziativa "Black history week” con l’intenzione di raccontare la storia delle persone afrodiscendenti
negli Stati Uniti. Si scelse il mese di febbraio perché coincide con le date di nascita di Abraham Lincoln, ex
presidente degli Stati Uniti e di Frederick Douglass. Entrambi hanno avuto un ruolo significativo
nell’aiutare a porre fine alla schiavitù.
Negli anni 60 grazie al movimento dei diritti civili, l’iniziativa venne celebrato dai sindaci di tante città in
tante parte del paese.
In Italia nasce nel 2016 a Firenze, attraverso gli sforzi di Justin Randolph Thompson, Andre Halyard (AKA Dre Love) e Andrea Mi. Dall'anno dopo viene ampliato a Firenze tramite il lavoro di Janine Gäelle Dieudji che lo dirige attualmente insieme a Thompson. L'iniziativa espandende poi a Bologna, Torino e Milano. Oggi si celebra in molte altre città.
Con questa puntata vorremmo riflettere su i dieci anni di Black History Month Florence, traendo ispirazione dall'archivio dell'iniziativa stessa, sentendo le voci di varie persone che hanno contribuito al lavoro e alla comunità che rappresenta adesso questa iniziativa.

Afrodipendenza is a radio program dedicated to a perspective positioned in the cultural
history of Afro-descendants in Italy. Focusing on contemporary culture and
historical narration as a form of projection towards the future, the program was born from the collaboration
between The Recovery Plan and Igiaba Scego as a media outlet that emerges from a deafening silence.
The Recovery Plan is a center dedicated to Afro-descendant cultures conceived by Black History Month
Florence in the city of Florence born in 2019.

In the month of February from 1 to 28, the 10th edition of Black History Month Florence will take place, entitled “TEMPO RUBATO"(STOLEN TIME), which is a meditationon the erasure of history as the theft of time, but also draws on musical notation, stolen, which gives the musician the freedom to interpret time, speeding it up and slowing it down as a means of expression.

How did this movement start? And why in February?
In February 1926, Carter G Woodson, known as the father of black history, decided to launch the "Black History Week" initiative with the intention of telling the story of African-descendant people in the United States. The month of February was chosen because it coincides with the birth dates of Abraham Lincoln, former president of the United States, and Frederick Douglass. Both played a significant role in helping to end slavery. In the 1960s, thanks to the civil rights movement, the initiative was celebrated by the mayors of many cities in many parts of the country. In Italy, it was born in 2016 in Florence, through the efforts of Justin Randolph Thompson, Andre Halyard (AKA Dre Love) and Andrea Mi. The following year, it was expanded through the work of Janine Gäelle Dieudji, who currently directs it together with Thompson. The initiative then extended to Bologna, Turin and Milan. Today, it is celebrated in many other cities. With this episode, we would like to reflect on the ten years of Black History Month Florence, drawing inspiration from the archive of the initiative itself, hearing the voices of various people who have contributed to the work and community that this initiative now represents.

Proseguiamo con un dialogo con Shannice Alogaga, Alessia Dulbecco, Kaaj Tshikalandand e Alessio Ravazzani intorno alla presentazione del fumetto Le Streghe Son Tornate che fa parte della rivista La Revue. L'evento era a The Recovery Plan il 17/12/2024. Torniamo nell'archivio per un evento tenutasi il 13 novembre del 2019 al PARC di Thomas Sayers Ellis e James Brandon Lewis, The Dead Lecturers, un'evento in collaborazione con Black History Month Florence, Boomker Sound Studios, e Villa Romana. Recentemente si è concluso l’evento “Real to Reel: The Archive” consistente in una proiezione e conversazione con Kevin Jerome Everson e Justin Randoph Thompson il 18 dicembre presso la MAD, Murate Art District. Today we will talk about the artist Courtney Bryan, pianist and composer who collaborated with us in 2020 during her stay in Rome as a fellow at the American Academy in Rome. She did a workshop in Florence at PARC in collaboration with Florence International School and SACI and recorded a series of songs at Boomker Sound Studios. We continue with a dialogue with Shannice Alogaga, Alessia Dulbecco, Kaaj Tshikalandand and Alessio Ravazzani with the presentation of the comic Le Streghe Son Tornate which is part of the magazine La Revue. The event was at The Recovery Plan on 12/17/2024. We return to the archive for an event held on November 13, 2019 at PARC by Thomas Sayers Ellis and James Brandon Lewis, The Dead Lecturers, an event in collaboration with Black History Month Florence, Boomker Sound Studios, and Villa Romana. We recently concluded the event “Real to Reel: The Archive” consisting of a screening and conversation with Kevin Jerome Everson and Justin Randoph Thompson on December 18th 2024 at MAD, Murate Art District. The event was part of a short residency of Everson at Murate Art District as part of Black Archive Alliance. Finally we would like to propose two more recordings by Courtney Bryan, recorded in Florence at Boomker Sound Studios in 2020.

Stasera vi
proponiamo un episodio dedicato alla mobilità e al incontro. Attraverso alcune conversazioni
con le attiviste Antonella bundu e Angelica Pesarini e musiche registrate a
Firenze e a Marrakech. Condividiamo con voi la lettura di una lettera di
Leopold Sedar Senghor fatta da Antonella Bunduall’interno del Salone dei 500 di
Palazzo Vecchio quasi 60 anni dopo il giorno in cui Senghor lo pronunciò nello
stesso luogo. In seguito, ascolteremo una canzone registrata a Marrakech con un
gruppo di musicisti provenienti da varie parti del continente africano seguita
da una traccia registrata alla New York University Florence nel 2018 che
omaggia Gil Scott Heron.  Ascoltiamo poi
una riflessione di Angelica Pesarini sul signifiato di raccontarsi seguita da
una conversazione fra la sociologa e Antonella Bundu sui privilegi della

Tonight we offer you an episode dedicated to mobility and encounters. Through conversations with activists Antonella Bundu and Angelica Pesarini and music recorded in Florence and Marrakech. We share with you the reading of a letter by Léepold Sedár Senghor made by Antonella Bundu inside the Salone dei 500 of Palazzo Vecchio almost 60 years after the day Senghor pronounced it in the same place. Afterwards, we will listen to a song recorded in Marrakech with a group of musicians from various parts of the African continent followed by a track recorded at New York University Florence in 2018 that pays homage to Gil Scott Heron. We then listen to a reflection by Angelica Pesarini on the meaning of self narration followed by a conversation between Pesarini and Antonella Bundu on the privileges of mobility. Afrodipendenza è
un programma radiofonico dedicato a una prospettiva posizionata sulla storia culturale
degli afrodiscendenti in Italia. Concentrandosi sulla cultura contemporanea e
sulla narrazione storica come forma di proiezione verso il futuro, il programma
nasce dalla collaborazione tra The Recovery Plan e Igiaba Scego come media
outlet che emerge a un silenzio assordante. Letture, storia orale, ricerche,
conversazioni con artisti, oltre a opera sonore e musica legati al lavoro di
The Recovery Plan sono la base di questo programma bimestrale. Afrodipendenza
trae il suo nome dalle nozioni di indipendenza e dipendenza in relazione all'autoemancipazione
e allo sfruttamento della storia degli afrodiscendenti. Il programma intende
essere un archivio di narrazioni che ispirano pratiche di auto-narrazione e una
cassa di risonanza per un lavoro socialmente radicato.

Afrodipendenza
is a radio program dedicated to the prospective on cultural history of
Afrodescendent people in Italy. Focusing on contemporary culture and historical
narration as a form of projecting towards the future, the program is created as
a collaboration between The Recovery Plan and Igiaba Scego as a media outlet.
Readings, oral history, research , artist conversations as well as sound and
music connected to the work of The Recovery Plan come together in this bi
monthly program. Afrodipendenza draws its name from notions of independence and
dependence in relation to Black history self-empowerment and exploitation. The
program intends to be an archival collector of narratives that inspire
practices of self narration and a amplifier for socially engaged work.

Per la prima puntata di Afrodipendenza vi
proponiamo una conversazione su performatività e diaspora con l'acclamata
attrice Iris Peynado e l'artista transmediale Brianda Carreras, a seguire, un dialogo
sullo spazio pubblico e le storie contestate a Roma con l'attivista Yodit
Estifanos Afewerki e il sociologo Davide Valeri, entrambi questi scambi sono
stati registrati al MACRO di Roma in occasione dell'evento Chi due volte ci
vuole tornare domenica 22 settembre. Condividiamo con voi anche una performance
sonora dal titolo Water Spirits registrata dal vivo al Pirelli Hangar Bicocca
in occasione della mostra Ground Break dell'artista Nari Ward con SADI, Jermay
Michael Gabriel e  Justin Randolph Thompson.

Condividiamo con
voi un frammento del progetto Transmigrating
Cassettes volume 2 dedicato alla memoria archivistica di Giorgio e Isabella
Marincola realizzato dal collettivo SITAAD, Leyla Degan e Naima Hassan. Transmigrating Cassettes è un contenitore sonoro per gli interventi di
ricerca di SITAAD sulle collezioni coloniali disperse. Sfrutta l'audiocassetta
come strumento archivistico e discorsivo. SITAAD è una piattaforma e una
collaborazione artistica fondata da Leyla Degan e Naima Hassan nel 2022. Con il
nome di sitaad, un tipo di incontro devozionale organizzato dalle donne somale,
il duo di archiviste facilita interventi sociali e artistici all'interno di
siti, musei e archivi coloniali. Vi proponiamo inoltre una live di David Blank presso la Sala Vanni del 19  febbraio 2021 che ha fatto parte della prima edizione del festival E il Clamore è Divenuto Voce.













In chiusura della
puntata vi proponiamo una live del musicista Yosief Teklay registrata al Boomker
Sound il 17 febbraio 2019 come parte dell’archivio di Black History Month
Florence.

Vogliamo dedicare questa prima puntata alla giovane ricercatrice
Natasha Aidoo, tragicamente scomparsa quest'estate, che ha lasciato un
archivio dedicato al Femminismo e all'Urbanismo. Ci ha lasciato le sue poesie,
la sua arte e una serie di scritti che intendiamo celebrare e ricordare con voi
come mezzo per tenere con noi il suo spirito e la sua energia e per portare la
sua voce alle prossime generazioni che ne avranno sicuramente bisogno.

For the first installment of Afrodependenza, we bring you a
conversation on performativity and diaspora with acclaimed actress Iris Peynado
and transmedia artist Brianda Carreras, then, a dialogue on public space and contested
histories in Rome with activist Yodit Estifanos Afewerki and sociologist Davide
Valeri, both of these exchanges were recorded at MACRO in Rome on the occasion
of the event Chi due volte ci vuole tornare on Sunday, September 22. We also
share with you a sound performance entitled Water Spirits recorded live
at Pirelli Hangar Bicocca on the occasion of the exhibition Ground
Break  by-artist Nari Ward with SADI, Jermay Michael Gabriel and
Justin Randolph Thompson. We share with you  a fragment of the project
Transmigrating Cassettes Volume 2 dedicated by the collective SITAAD Leyla Degan
and Naima Hassan dedicated to the archival memory of Giorgio and Isabella
Marincola. SITAAD is a platform and artistic collaboration founded by Leyla
Degan and Naima Hassan in 2022. Under the name sitaad, a type of devotional
gathering organised by Somali women, the archivist duo facilitate social and
artistic interventions within colonial sites, museums, and archives.We also
bring you a live performance by David Blank from February, 19 2021 at Sala
Vanni that was part of the first edition of the festival E il Clamore è
Divenuto Voce. In closing we bring you a live performance by musician
Yosief Teklay recorded at Boomker Sound on February 17, 2019 as part of the
Black History Month Florence archive.

We would like to dedicate this first episode to the young researcher Natasha
Aidoo, who tragically passed away this summer and left behind an archive
dedicated to Feminism and Urbanism, left us her poems, her art and a series of
writings that we intend to celebrate and remember with you as a means to keep
her spirit and energy with us and to carry her voice to the next generations
who will surely need it.
